Bishop Nestor NGOY
(Bishop of Manono, Zaïre)

In Zaïre like in many other countries in Africa,
sects proliferate in an incredible way. To tackle this phenomenon the Catholic
Church in Africa must do the following:
- proclaim the Word of God with all her strength
to reach Africans in their practical life as a Word which creates, transforms
and heals.
- pay attention to these phenomena such as witchcraft,
magic, the action of spirits and the dead, phenomena which have a real
impact on the life of many Africans, even the ones baptised.
- revaluate the sacrament of the sick and the ministries
such as exorcism, prayer for the sick and deliverance from evil spirits.
- Correctly localise the renewal groups in the
spirit which are already like schools of prayers, places of conversion
and spiritual and physical healing.
In all these, the priests must exert a great deal
of judgement to unmask the action of evil and not hind the Spirit of God.
